Colorectal Cancer Screening

Colorectal cancer screening detects colorectal cancer at an early stage, before any signs or symptoms of the disease appear, in order to increase the chances of successful treatment.

In most cases, screening is done using the fecal immunochemical test (FIT), which detects the presence of blood in the stool that is not visible to the naked eye.

Eligibility

Colorectal cancer screening is for :

  • individuals aged 50 to 74;
  • individuals under 49 with one or more family members who have previously been diagnosed with colorectal cancer.

Colorectal cancer screening is not for:

  • individuals who have already been diagnosed with colorectal cancer in their lifetime;
  • individuals who have had a FIT within the past two (2) years.

To book an appointment

  • Visit Clic Santé under the “blood tests, screening and samples" category.
  • A toll-free line is also available: 1-888-862-3487

During your appointment, the nursing staff will conduct a clinical assessment by phone to confirm that you are eligible for the service and will determine the appropriate screening test for your situation.

If the FIT is the appropriate test, the nursing staff will tell you where to obtain the necessary kit and provide you with the instructions for its use.
